Perfect Love Casts Out All Fear

I believe that unforgiveness, anger, jealousy, worry and fretting over the future all have their root in just one feeling, and that feeling is fear.
The Bible says: “I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and He delivered me from all my fears.” Psalms 34:4
The Bible also says: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” 1John 4:18
I believe, as the subject of fear is addressed in these passages, the Bible is telling us that, if we live in fear; then we don’t understand God’s immense love for us, and if we don’t understand God’s love for us, then we will believe that God is untrustworthy.
If we believe God isn’t trustworthy, then we will naturally live in fear of the future. Fearing the future causes us to be hateful and unforgiving toward those who’ve hurt us in the past, and it also causes us to be unforgiving toward ourselves for our past sins and misadventures, and all of that self-talk is founded upon a premise that simply isn’t true.
Allowing the perfect love the Father has for us to translate into our perfect love for Him through the Lord Jesus, will allow that perfect love to translate within us into perfect trust in Jesus for the future, and that perfect love and trust will cast out all of our fears. So, understanding God’s perfect love for us causes us to trust God, which causes us to forgive others, it causes us to release the debt of sin and it causes us to let go of our fears and bitterness… It sounds so simple, doesn’t it?
Well, it’s not that difficult if we just fall to our knees before a God who loves us, and we surrender our past, our future, and everything else to Him, so we can get on with the perfect love that’s freely available to us. Then we can be done with the fear that leads to all that other nonsense. Those are my thoughts, I’d love to hear yours…
